When I was restoring my 71 Challenger I found that NO
ONE was making heater box foam restoration kits or CORRECT body gaskets for our
Mopars. Since I already had a laser cutter/engraver I decided to make a
restoration kit for my own non A/C heater box.
I have since created heater
box kits for the following heater boxes...
70-74 E body A/C
70-74 E body
non A/C
66-70 B body non A/C
71-74 B body non A/C and
66-76 A body
non A/C
The gasket and foam materials I'm using are as OEM
correct as possible. I located the company that made the gray foam rubber
gasket material for Chrysler back in the 60's and 70's. I have also decided to
use the bubbly style, OEM looking, white foam gasket material found on taillight
housing to body, steering column to firewall and various other places throughout
the car. Other gasket companies use a newer, very acceptable, fine cell white or
yellowish/white foam that looks NOTHING like the OEM gaskets. I too
use this material for 72 and newer gaskets but have chosen to use the OEM
looking material on earlier gaskets. In fact the white foam material I have
chosen LOOKS just like the original material but is a modern, LA (Low Abrasion)
version that is much more resilient and UV resistant that the original 30 year
old foams.
Every day I'm disassembling and creating new kits for the
different Mopar body style heater boxes, taillight lenses and
other body/light gaskets. Let me know what gaskets or heater box kits you
would like to see next.
